buyer beware 3 smoking lung cancer, Creative Commons 2.5 license, by V. O’Flynn

My mother was a heavy smoker. When my mother was dying of lung cancer in Palliative care, I made a number of sketches of her. I did not do anything with the sketches for several years, then I made a silkscreen about loss called Never Easy. This animation is based on the image from that print. My mother died of lung cancer in 1993, it took me another 6 years to successfully quit smoking myself. Buyers beware. (this was a segment in an earlier video). Nothing I did or use led me to quit smoking except Electronic Cigarette’s…

I went with the Volcano Magma, and haven’t’ look back at analog cigarette’s after 11 years of smoking, now how’s that?…. you think it won’t cut it for you becuz your a hardcore smoker?… then think again my friend!… I quit smoking with E-cigs.
You read all you need about it here:

Thank you for making this. It is helping motivate me to stay off the tobacco.
25 years of smoking off and on. Tried quitting so many times. Hopefully it will stick this time. 11 days now. I personally think tobacco should be illegal. It serves no purpose except to kill of the population, raise taxes, and keep social security from going bankrupt., by killing off the individuals before they can collect it. Thanks again for the very powerful video. So sorry for the loss of your mother.

oman i been smokin for 5 yrs so hard to quit right now, its only been 3 days

omg im so sorry i hope your ok plz get better of your moms death :(

thats weird cause i was born 1993. I feel for you.

this is sad. i hope i dont have to see my mom go through this. she is currently fighting her luing cancer. thankfully it has not spread to anything else. may your mom rest in peace.

My father died of lung cancer several years ago. For a long time I used to become enraged when I would see someone smoking. I wish they would outlaw cigarettes.

i quit “2-years ago” due to these videos! without these youtube video warnings/education-i dought i would have quit! i know for sure now that after 2-years as a non-smoker,i’ll NEVER-EVER SMOKE AGAIN IN MY LIFE! IM 46 years old now.

@TaviYamato FOAD

My mom passed last week from lung cancer. Keep up the good fight.

@propaghandi2 i want to tell you, from my uttermost depth of my heart, that i am so proud of you. Good job! Seriously for quitting for three weeks. Your one of the very few ive seen ;P

Controlling blood sugars by eating a diet like protein and vegetetables, lots of juices to keep you healthy. I don’t smoke anymore and in my opinion, it is easier if your healthy, so you can hasndle stress, detox better. I found the patch and the gum was important. I got very ill on the patch and gum in the end that it put me of the nictoine in the fags. Stay away from beta carotene supplements, increases LC risk.

i am so sorry.. my grandmother dyed from the same thing and she had empasema 4 the longest time… i am soooo sorry!!

@daddycool101 Don’t give up! Do whatever it takes to stop! In addition to all the other stop smoking aids, you might want to try chewing on carrot sticks (I know it sounds silly, but many claim it’s very effective since it keeps your mouth and hands busy - and they’re nutritious!). And if the urge to light up returns, just watch this video again of this poor dying woman - you do not want to end up like her!

This is a very powerful video - I hope it helps others realize the ill effects of smoking. I read a lot of comments about stop smoking methods, some criticizing one over another. I personally feel whatever works to help someone quit this killer habit is effective, but they each must make an effort first and foremost. Finally, my condolences on the loss of your mother and congratulations on quitting smoking yourself.

Reminds me of my mother who died of lung cancer as well. Its a horrible way to go smoking isnt worth it . I smoked 15 years and quit for my mom, the last thing she asked me and still took years after she died to quit. No one should go this way, If you smoke FUKIN STOP!!!!!!! if you dont, dont start, Its cool at 15 but when your 30 and all the people are gone anyway How fucking cool are you and all you did was increase your risk at cancer ???? real fucking smart

ty for sharing this, like the other person said, it’s very powerful. I always put away these types of images from my thoughts thinking this wont happen to me..or if it does it’s not gonna be for a loooong time. I’ve only been smoke free for 16 days but these type of vids keep me going. Grats on your almost 10 year anniversary of smoke free:)

I am a quitter I have smoked for 12 years and I am 26 now and I have been quit for 4 months and I love the extra money and I can breath easier

i am so sorry for your loss my mom also died from smoking in june 07 - i miss her so very much
